Shipwreck Stew

2 tbls. of lard

1 lb. of ground beef

3/4 cup of sliced onion, 1/4 cup of rice, 1 cup of water, 3 cups of cubed potatoes, 1 can of carrots or mixed vegetables, 1 tsp. of salt and a dash of pepper

Melt the lard in a skillet.

Arrange a layer of beef, onion, rice, potatoes and vegetables in the skillet.

Add seasonings and water. Cover and cook slowly on top of stove for 1 hour. Can also be made in a slow cooker.
